I Think I Have a Vocation?

There is no doubt about that whatsoever, you do have a vocation.

Each one of us is invited by God to follow one of three different 'pathways of discipleship'. Most of us are called to follow the Lord as a member of the lay faithful. Some, on the other hand, are called to religious life and/or ordained ministry. What is absolutely certain is that we are all invited to follow one pathway or another.

Once we have been baptised, then we all share in the 'royal priesthood' as we read in 1 Peter 2:9, and we need to nurture one another in the faith as we grow older.

It is also true that God does invite some people to follow the pathways of religious life and/or ordained ministry. In this case, then there is a more specific 'nurturing' and formation available to help you discover whether or not you are called to live and work in the Church as a religious, deacon or priest.

Each diocese has an individual or team of people known as Vocation Directors who will help you with the next stages of the journey of discovery. He (the Vocation Director is usually a priest) will be able to point those interested in religious life towards different religious orders. If you feel you may be called to be a deacon or a priest, then he will be very happy to lead you through the various stages of 'discernment'.
